Parliament elects Dzhamilya Dzhamanbaeva as Ombudswoman of Kyrgyzstan

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan elected Dzhamilya Dzhamanbaeva as Ombudswoman. The decision was made at its meeting.

At least 48 deputies voted for the candidacy of Dzhamilya Dzhamanbaeva. Bakyt Rysbekov was supported by 20 deputies.

Deputy Gulya Kozhokulova stated that, according to the Law on the Ombudsman, 50 votes are required to be elected.

Vice Speaker Nurbek Sydygaliev replied that the Parliament is guided by the regulations, which say that the Ombudsman is elected by a majority of votes.

Dzhamilya Dzhamanbaeva was nominated by Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan faction and Mekenchil deputy group.

Atyr Abdrakhmatova lost her post as the main human rights activist of the country by decision of the deputies.
