European Union supports digitalisation of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture

The EU Integrated Rural Development Project/ TRIGGER is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) to streamline the system and build the capacity of department heads and key professionals. As part of this initiative, a four-day training session was conducted for high-level managers. The training was aimed at providing the tools and basics of business process management and allowed representatives of the Ministry’s management to get acquainted with modern methods of process-oriented management. This will allow the heads of departments to maximize productivity and achieve real and visible results.

In addition to the above topics, the heads of departments of the Ministry of Agriculture acquired the skills to identify and formalize the processes of the Ministry's activities for further analysis and development of information systems.

The project will continue to provide maximum support to the Ministry of Agriculture and build its capacity to improve the living standards and resilience of the rural population in some regions of Tajikistan.

Integrated Rural Development Project/ GIZ “Towards Rural Inclusive Growth and Economic Resilience (TRIGGER)” is a joint project of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) implemented by GIZ, to boost the added value of agricultural production in Tajikistan.

The Cultural Center of Tajikistan will appear in Moscow

A cultural and representative center of Tajikistan will appear in the center of Moscow. It will be located in the building at the address: st. 2nd Tverskaya-Yamskaya, 40, where the Hotel Complex of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is currently located ".

According to TASS, in the future, the object is planned to be transferred free of charge to Tajikistan.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin, speaking via video link with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, said that the Moscow government would provide Tajikistan with a building in the center of the Russian capital to organize a cultural center, the Russian side would cover all expenses.

The authorities of Tajikistan decided to strengthen the protection of classified information

The Government of Tajikistan instructed to approve the State Program to strengthen the protection of state secrets and technical protection of information in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2022-2026.

The corresponding government decree was published on the portal of legal information of the Ministry of Justice of the country 30 August.

The Decree instructed to approve the Action Plan for the implementation of the said Program. It is planned to allocate about 15.6 million somoni ($1.5 million) for the implementation of these activities until 2026. These funds will be allocated from the state budget and other sources.

The main goal of preparing this program is explained by the strengthening of the activities of state bodies in the field of protecting classified information and information with restricted access through technical channels.

Drowning of three passengers in the stream of Fon-Daryo

On August 31, 2022, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the driver of a Mercedes-Benz car, Ismailov Hakim Navruzovich, born in 1965, a resident of Aini district, while driving on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, in the territory of the rural community Aini failed to control the vehicle and overturned the car to a depth of 40-50 meters into the Fond Daryo river.

As a result, the driver of the car Ismailov H.N. and his passenger Nasriddinov Nurullo Kabievich, born in 1962, a resident of this district, received physical injuries and were hospitalized.

Another passenger of this car, Murad Nurulloevich Nasriddinov, born in 1985, and two other passengers, whose identity is unknown, disappeared in the river water incident.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Theft of money from a backpack

A 32-year-old man from the city of Istaravshan filed a complaint with the Police Department in Boston that on August 8, 2022, at approximately 1:10 p.m., an unknown person secretly entered his store, located in the “Somoni” market of the city. He stole 15 thousand somoni from his backpack and disappeared from the scene.

During the operative-search activities, the police officers arrested an 18-year-old resident of B. Ghafurov district as a suspect in committing the crime of theft.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect under Article 244, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the investigation is ongoing.

The most successful boxer of Tajikistan will compete for the world title

His opponent will be the British Joseph Cordina.

Tajik professional boxer Shavkatjon Rakhimov on October 29 will fight for the title of the world champion according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the second featherweight weight (up to almost 59 kg) against British Joseph Kordina.

This was reported by the press service of the Ural promotion company RCC Boxing Promotions, with which the Tajik boxer signed a contract.

Recall that Rakhimov in this weight has already boxed for the IBF world title on February 13, 2021. Then his opponent, American Joseph Diaz, lost the belt, and a draw was recorded at the end of 12 rounds of the fight. And the belt is still vacant.

In total, Rakhimov has 17 fights in professional boxing, in which he won 16 victories.

On September 1, President of the Republic Emomali Rahmon and UN Secretary-General António Guterres discussed by telephone the current state and prospects for cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN.

The parties discussed sustainable development, ensuring peace, stability and regional security, the press service of the head of state reports.

" Emomali Rahmon expressed Tajikistan's readiness to continue constructive cooperation with the UN and its structural institutions in all these areas", - the press service reports.

The situation in Afghanistan, issues related to strengthening the border of Tajikistan with this country and the continuation of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people were also discussed.

Tajikistan validates the results of its disaster risk management system stress test, with the support of the European Union [EN/RU]

DUSHANBE – Experts from the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction of Tajikistan and related national agencies, international and local organizations, and representatives of academia participated in a workshop to validate the results of a stress test of the country’s disaster risk management system. The workshop was funded by the European Union (EU) and organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) within the joint project on disaster risk reduction in Central Asia.

The initial workshop to stress test Tajikistan’s disaster risk management system was held in July 2022, with the analysis of the stress test, compiled by UNDRR, validated by the stakeholders during Friday’s workshop. These workshops follow a comprehensive capacity assessment and planning exercise of Tajikistan’s disaster risk management system, which was conducted by the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense and UNDRR in May 2022. The assessment revealed challenges in the existing disaster risk management system and suggested a targeted plan for strengthening it, which were also presented at Friday’s workshop.

The stress test analysis is the first of its kind supported by UNDRR in Central Asia. Its results will contribute to further strengthening the DRM system and an increased understanding of the complex disaster risks in the country.

Background information

The EU-funded project “Strengthening disaster resilience and accelerating the implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Central Asia”, implemented by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), supports countries of the region in implementing the Sendai Framework priorities. The project supports strengthening regional coordination, development of regional DRR strategy, national disaster loss accounting systems, and community-level disaster risk reduction. On the local level, the project supports the development of disaster resilience strategies of capital cities. For this project, the EU committed EUR 3,750,000 for the three-year implementation.

Uzbekistan to close “Jarteppa” checkpoint between Samarkand and Penjikent for 11 days

A temporary restriction on the movement of citizens and vehicles has been established at the Jarteppa checkpoint on the border with Tajikistan. This is reported by the online edition daryo.uz with reference to the regional customs department.

The reason for the temporary closure of the border customs post is explained by the overhaul of the checkpoint buildings and the improvement of the territory in order to create greater comfort for passengers.

According to the publication, the restriction applies to both citizens and vehicles.

" The exception is:

- employees of diplomatic services and international organizations,

- members of official (state) delegations,

- employees of foreign organizations operating as part of the implementation of investment projects,

- drivers who carry out international cargo transportation,

- citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan returning to their country

- third-country nationals traveling to Tajikistan," the publication reports.
