Kazakhstan will not allow its territory to be used to circumvent sanctions against Russia, and to prevent such attempts, a goods monitoring system has been operating in the country since April 1. Roman Vasilenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, stated this in an interview with Al Jazeera channel.
According to him, there is no customs control on the border between Kazakhstan and Russia, and there are 51 border crossings between the two countries.
«You can imagine the intensity of the daily exchange. But from the first day of the conflict (in Ukraine), we said that while we are not imposing sanctions on Russia, we will also not allow our territory to be used for the circumvention of sanctions,» he said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan recalled that Kazakhstan also receives goods from countries that have not imposed sanctions against Russia (China, India, Vietnam). These imported products go to Russia without hindrance.
He noted that the Kazakh authorities have introduced an online system on April 1 that is tracking all goods crossing the country’s border. It is designed to show that the Republic of Kazakhstan complies with the restrictions imposed by Western countries against the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the Telegraph reported, citing the document, that the European Union is considering imposing sanctions on Central Asian countries for helping Russia bypass restrictive measures.
