The 11th Annual Meeting of the Central Asian Deputy Foreign Ministers

On 8 December 2021, the 11th annual meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Central Asian countries was held in Dushanbe.

Along with the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Farhod Salim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Azizbek Madmarov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Tajikistan Askar Tazhibaev, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center Jehangir Khan, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Afghanistan, Deputy Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan Mette Knudsen and representatives of donor countries also took part and delivered the speeches.

During this meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of the regional and international agenda, including the fight against challenges and threats to security, such as international terrorism and extremism, radicalization, organized crime and drug trafficking, socio-economic problems, and exchanged views on the development prospects of the regional cooperation in Central Asia.

The 4th phase of the joint project entitled “Joint Plan of Action: Towards a comprehensive implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia” was officially launched within one of the sessions of the meeting of the Central Asian Deputy Foreign Ministers.

Tajikistan and UNCTAD Discuss Economic Cooperation

Areas of economic cooperation of Tajikistan with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) were discussed yesterday by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda and the UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebecca Greenspan.

Zavkizoda spoke about strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and asked Greenspan to provide more assistance toward the digitization of the economy, digital commerce, simplification of trade procedures, and improvement of other priority areas.

The meeting was attended by the official delegation of Tajikistan consisting of heads and representatives of the Committee on Food Security, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Tajikstandard agency, and the Customs Service.

Meeting of the Ambassador with the Minister of Family and Social Services of Turkey

On December 8, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Turkey Ashraf Gulov met with the Minister of Family and Social Services of Turkey Derya Yanik.

During the meeting the issues of exchange of knowledge, experience and strengthening cooperation in the field of social protection of the population were discussed. At the same time, the parties stressed the importance of the family in society. The Ambassador noted that during the independence of Tajikistan the status of women in society has increased, especially in the light of the policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon increased interest in women's social and sectoral activities.

The interlocutors coordinated the establishment of a working group to develop cooperation, exchange of experience in the field of social protection and implementation of various items of the Tajik-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Tajikistan Presented Its First WTO Trade Policy Review

As a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Tajikistan has been actively involved in global trade initiatives, providing an average annual economic growth of 7% and an average annual growth of trade reaching 10%. This was stated on December 6-8 in Geneva at the meetings of the Trade Policy Review of Tajikistan at the WTO.

The event was attended by the official delegation of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda along with other WTO members.

Zavkizoda noted that President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon identified strengthening export potential, diversifying exports and simplifying trade procedures as priority areas of the government’s economic policy in the field of trade.

“After joining the WTO, as a result of the measures taken by the government, despite the influence of external factors associated with the economic and financial crises, trade conflicts, economic sanctions of some countries and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, Tajikistan’s volume of exports has doubled, the list of exported goods has increased 1.8 fold, and industrial production has increased 2.1 times. For the first time in the country, the single window system has been launched to simplify exports, imports and transit operations, as well as the Trade Portal of Tajikistan,” he said.

For almost 9 years as a member in the WTO, Tajikistan has answered more than 156 questions in the economic sphere and comments of the member states.

The chairman of the meetings, Ambassador of Botswana to the WTO and the opponent of the meetings, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Taeho Lee noted their appreciation of the trade policy, as well as the achievements of Tajikistan in the field of trade, in particular, the simplification of trade procedures and activities within the framework of WTO.

Disclosure of theft

A 38-year-old resident of Shahrinav district filed a complaint with the DMIA. stole household items and disappeared from the scene.
