A photo exhibition will open at the Cultural Center on December 8 as part of the celebration. Representatives of diplomatic corps in the Commonwealth countries, compatriots, heads of cultural and educational institutions will take part in the event. A 20-year-old man was stabbed

A 30-year-old resident of Vahdat filed a complaint with the DMIA in Vahdat on December 5, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., near the station of his village. -5 times hit the upper parts of his legs and disappeared from the scene.

As a result, the victim received injuries and was hospitalized.

An investigation is under way.

Meeting of the Foreign Minister with the UN delegation

On 7 December 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin received the representative delegation of the United Nations Organizations consisting of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Ms. Natalya Gherman and Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre of the UN Office on Counter-Terrorism Mr. Jehangir Khan, who are on a working visit in our country.

During the meeting the parties expressed sincere interest in strengthening and expanding the cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the UN in various fields, including ensuring peace and stability in the world, combating modern threats and challenges, protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable and social development.

During the conversation, the sides also discussed the issues of the regional security, the strengthening of Tajikistan cooperation with the UN counter-terrorism units, especially with the Counter-Terrorism Centre of the UN Office on Counter-Terrorism, as well as the prospects of joint actions in this area.

Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Tajikistan condemns international terrorism and extremism and supports the effective implementation of the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia and UN Secretary General's Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.

Sirojiddin Muhriddin also congratulated interlocutors on occasion of the beginning of the 4th phase of the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia, the official ceremony of which is planned on the 8th of December 2021 in Dushanbe in the framework of the 11th meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Central Asian countries.

Pedestrian death as a result of a traffic accident

On December 5, 2021, at approximately 17:30, the driver of the Opel Astra, Umarov Behruz Ashurovich, born in 1990, resident of Mastchoh district, provided traffic safety while driving on the Buston-Komsomol highway. The pedestrian, Bakieva Izzatmoh Hasanovna, born in 1972, a resident of the district, was hit by a pedestrian. As a result, pedestrian Bakieva I.H. received serious bodily injuries and died at the scene.

An investigation is under way.

President Emomali Rahmon Received Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Marwan Abdullah Al-Ghanim

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Marwan Abdullah Al-Ghanim.

The discussion focused on the current state of friendly relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and the State of Kuwait.

At the outset of the meeting, President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan supports the expansion of multifaceted cooperation with Kuwait and is interested in developing cooperation with its important financial institution, in particular the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Special focus was placed on the implementation of large joint hydropower projects, non-ferrous metallurgy, light and food industries, construction, roads, and communications.

The sides continued their discussion on further strengthening and expanding relations in agriculture, education, health care, mining, and processing.

President Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with the contribution of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in the implementation of five transport and energy projects in Tajikistan.

The counterparts proposed to hold the Tajikistan — Kuwait Business Forum and exhibitions of agricultural and industrial products in order to develop and expand bilateral cooperation.

US Donates $1 Million Worth of Radiation Monitoring Equipment to Tajikistan

Equipment for safety and radiation monitoring worth over $1 million was donated by the US to the Regional Training Center of Tajikistan’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency.

The equipment will help Tajikistan’s security forces combat the smuggling of nuclear and radioactive material into and within Tajikistan, reports the US Embassy in Dushanbe.

The equipment includes a mobile radiation detection unit, portable detection systems, surveillance equipment, vehicle inspection kits, and maintenance that will complement the GKNB’s anti-smuggling activities throughout the country.

The US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) will conduct a joint training with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to strengthen Tajik agencies’ law enforcement investigations in response to nuclear smuggling incidents.

Peter Riley Sworn-in as USAID Mission Director in Tajikistan

In an official ceremony held in the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) office in Washington, D.C., Peter Riley was sworn in as the Mission Director for USAID in Tajikistan.

“Riley will bring all of his passion and skills to guide USAID/Tajikistan as it manages the largest bilateral portfolio in Central Asia and strengthens USAID’s role as a trusted partner of the Tajik people,” remarked Administrator Samantha Power.

Upon assuming the office, Riley voiced his commitment to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Tajikistan and helping the people of Tajikistan live more prosperous lives.

“The naming of the first permanent Mission Director for America’s global development agency and the establishment of a bilateral USAID mission in Dushanbe demonstrates our long-term commitment to the people of Tajikistan,” noted the US Ambassador to Tajikistan John Mark Pommersheim who attended the event virtually from Dushanbe.

Riley is a career USAID Foreign Service Officer with over 30 years of international development experience. Prior to his new role, Riley served as the Director of USAID in Tunisia, the Director of the Office of Economic Growth and Infrastructure in the USAID West Bank/Gaza Mission, the Director of the Office of Consolidation, Land and Environment at USAID/Colombia, and a Senior Stabilization Advisor for USAID/Afghanistan.

Before joining the Foreign Service, Riley was the Senior Regional Advisor for Africa for the US Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance in Nairobi, Kenya, and served as the Chief of Party for USAID-funded projects in the Horn of Africa, Liberia, and Uganda. Riley has also lived and worked in Jordan, Croatia, Ethiopia, Botswana, the Gambia, and Chad.

Tajikistan: UN rights expert to assess trafficking in persons

UN Special Rapporteur Siobhán Mullally will assess the issue of trafficking in persons in Tajikistan during an official visit to the country from 8-15 December 2021.

“This visit will be an opportunity to meet relevant officials, civil society, organisations and survivors, to discuss trafficking in persons in all its forms, the key human rights concerns arising, as well as the progress that Tajikistan has made in combating trafficking in persons,” Mullally said.

“I will pay particular attention to the main challenges in implementing international and legal frameworks on trafficking to ensure the human rights of victims, and effective prevention. A particular concern will be the risks of trafficking that may be faced by refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers and their families.

“Gender equality and the gender dimension of trafficking will be a central focus, in particular the risks of trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, prevention of all forms of trafficking and access to effective remedies. Child rights and concerns in relation to child trafficking for all forms of exploitation will also be examined.”

“I will also examine Tajikistan’s existing and planned measures to prevent trafficking, including protection of the rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, and to identify and protect victims, ensure access to justice and to effective remedies and social protection for survivors. Measures to combat impunity for trafficking in persons, and ensure effective investigations, will be examined.”

Mullally will meet representatives of Government agencies, as well as UN officials, members of civil society organisations and human rights defenders, especially those working on prevention, and on identification and victim assistance, during her visit to Dushanbe. She will also assess the challenges of identifying, and ensuring protection to victims of trafficking among asylum seekers and refugees, and people at risk of trafficking.

The Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference to share her preliminary observations with the media. It will take place at 1600 local time on 15 December at the UN Headquarters in Dushanbe, 5/1 Lohuti Street. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.

The Special Rapporteur’s findings and recommendations will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2022.

Painting competition in Jabbor Rasulov district

In order to educate students in the spirit of courage, bravery, patriotism and patriotism, the Public Council for Civil Society Assistance to Police Reform under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan in Sughd region and with the support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan Secondary schools of Jabbor Rasulov district on December 7, 2021 held a drawing competition.

On the day of the event, the Chairman of the Public Council for Civil Society Assistance to Police Reform under the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan in Sughd Malikislomi Naim Munavvar noted that today we must appreciate the peace and tranquility of our beloved homeland. Let us land in the presence of those who fought for the protection of the Motherland and with conscientious work have turned Tajikistan into a paradise.

In the competition, more than 30 students from schools of the district presented their heartfelt paintings. It was obvious that the readers are more impressed by the history of their ancient nation, the activities of the police and the achievements of the Independence era. They skillfully depicted the flag and emblem of Tajikistan, photographs of police officers and several achievements of independence. In the end, the winners were awarded with prizes.
