Senior PKK terrorist ‘neutralized’ by Turkish intelligence in N.Iraq

Trkiye's National Intelligence Organization "neutralized" Eyvaz Beyaz, a wanted senior PKK terrorist, in a cross-border operation in northern Iraq, security sources said on Sunday, Anadolu Agency reports.

Beyaz, codenamed Zerdest Karadeniz, was targeted in an operation by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization in the Duhok-Gara region, said the sources, who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Turkish authorities use the term "neutralized" to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured. PKK terrorists often hide out in northern Iraq, near the border with Trkiye, to plot more attacks.

After joining the rural establishment of the terrorist group in 1994, Beyaz attacked gendarmerie troops in Trkiye's Black Sea province of Sinop in 2010 and a police vehicle in the city of the same name in 2011. He also carried out a bomb attack against gendarmerie in the Black Sea province of Trabzon in 2012.

Wanted by Interpol with a red notice, Beyaz is also on the Turkish Interior Ministry's list of wanted terrorists. He is also responsible for attacks on operations launched by Turkish security forces in the Zap region of northern Iraq, the sources added.

Last Thursday Turkish intelligence forces also "neutralized" Ahmet Gumus, a so-called training officer of the PKK terror group, and then on Friday did the same to Necirvan Seven, another wanted PKK terrorist, in northern Iraq.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Trkiye, the PKK - listed as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US and EU - has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.

Japan PM Kishida visits Seoul to forge closer ties amid North Korea threats

Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visits Seoul on Sunday to meet South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, facing a skeptical public there as the leaders seek deeper ties amid nuclear threats from North Korea and China’s increasing assertiveness, Trend reports citing Al Arabiya.

Kishida’s bilateral visit, the first by a Japanese leader to Seoul in 12 years, returns the trip Yoon made to Tokyo in March, where they sought to close a chapter on the historical disputes that have dominated Japan-South Korea relations for years.

Yoon is facing criticism at home that he has given more than he’s received in his efforts to improve relations with Japan, including by proposing that South Korean businesses - not Japanese companies as ordered by a court - compensate victims of wartime labor during Japan’s 1910-1945 colonial occupation.

South Korean officials are hopeful that Kishida will make some kind of gesture in return and offer some political support, although few observers expect any further formal apology for historical wrongs. Yoon himself has signaled he doesn’t believe that is necessary.
