Tajikistan and France Hold Ministerial Political Consultations in Dushanbe

On May 12, Tajikistan and France held another round of ministerial political consultations in Dushanbe.

The consultations focused on the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between the countries in the political, economic, scientific and cultural spheres.

The parties stressed their readiness and mutual interest in further expanding trade and economic relations and cooperation in the field of hydropower and energy production from alternative sources, aviation, processing of agricultural products, creating smart cities, as well as academic and research exchange.

Tajikistan and Turkiye Strengthen Cooperation on Environmental Issues

Issues of cooperation in the field of environmental protection were discussed in Dushanbe by the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bahodur Sheralizoda and the Turkiye Ambassador to Tajikistan Umut Acar.

The parties expressed their readiness to sign an intergovernmental agreement «On cooperation in the field of environmental protection.»

The meeting also focused on the implementation of the Zero waste project, the development of legal norms for the processing of waste, the phasing out of plastic bags up to 15 microns thick and the processing of plastic materials.

Somon Air Discusses the Possibility of Acquiring a Chinese Aircraft Y-12E

The management of Somon Air and China’s AVIC INTL discussed possible options and ways to finance the transaction for the purchase of a Y-12E aircraft in case of interest from Somon Air.

The parties decided to proceed with the analysis of the compliance of the technical, economic and commercial characteristics of this project and continue talks in the medium term.

Y12 aircraft are light multi-purpose high-performance aircraft manufactured by China Aviation Industrial Corporation (AVIC). The Y-12 aircraft has 18-20 seats and performs cargo and passenger transportation.

AVIC International Holding Corporation is a large Chinese trading company mainly specialized in the aviation industry. It is part of the State Aircraft Industry Corporation of China.

Somon Air currently operates flights from Tajikistan to Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The airline’s fleet operates Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft.

Russia records 2,996 new daily COVID-19 cases, with 25 new fatalities – crisis center

Russia’s COVID-19 case tally rose by 2,996 over the past day to 22,898,376, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Sunday, Trend reports citing TASS.

As many as 332 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Russia over the past day, down 45.1% from the previous day. The number of hospitalized patients rose in 13 regions, while in 57 other regions the figure decreased. A day earlier, 605 people were rushed to hospitals.

Moscow’s COVID-19 cases rose by 453 over the past day, versus 442 a day earlier, reaching 3,512,720 since the onset of the pandemic, according to the anti-coronavirus crisis center. St. Petersburg’s COVID-19 cases increased by 193 over the past day, reaching 1,943,195.

Russia’s COVID-19 recoveries rose by 3,493 over the past day, reaching 22,320,310, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters.

COVID-19 death toll

Russia’s COVID-19 death toll climbed by 25 over the past day to 398,710. A day earlier, 27 COVID-19 deaths were registered.

Presidential and parliamentary election results to be successful for Türkiye – official

Chairman of the New Welfare Party (YRP) Fatih Erbakan voted in the presidential and parliamentary elections taking place in Türkiye, Trend reports via TurkicWorld.

In addition, 600 deputies in 87 constituencies will be elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly. 24 parties and 151 independent candidates participate in the elections.

Türkiye has over 191,000 ballot boxes installed. There are 60,697,843 registered voters in the country. About 5 million of them are voting for the first time.

Voting will begin at 08:00 (GMT+3) and will last until 17:00 (GMT+3). Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council (CEC) Ahmet Yener said that the preliminary results will be announced on the same day.

Speaker of the Assembly of Representatives to Visit Baku and Minsk

Today, the parliamentary delegation of Tajikistan led by the Speaker of the Assembly of Representatives Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda left for Baku to attend the special meeting of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in honor of the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev.

He will take part in the meeting, which will be held on May 16, at the invitation of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova

Additionally, per invitation of the Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin, Zokirzoda will take part in the offsite meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held on May 18 in Minsk (Belarus).

The parliamentary delegation also includes the Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs, Public Associations and Information of the Assembly of Representatives Saidmurod Fattohzoda.

President Emomali Rahmon Receives OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov

The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, received in the Palace of the Nation Mr. Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the High Commissioner of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on National Minorities.

During the meeting, all the issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and its institution on national minorities were discussed.

President Emomali Rahmon declared that Tajikistan’s cooperation with the Organization is open and constructive, and we appreciate the work of the High Commissioner in strengthening mutual trust, social unity and understanding of human rights.

It was emphasized that our policy is aimed at comprehensive strengthening of internal stability, as well as tolerance between nations and religions. The Government of Tajikistan takes specific measures to ensure the rights and freedoms of all its citizens, regardless of nationality, race, religion and language.

During the meeting, attention was paid to the issue of bilateral relations in the areas of strengthening international cooperation in the field of human rights, especially within the framework of international organizations and human rights institutions, including issues of national minorities, development of education, culture and languages.
