Magazine “Overview of the State of Drug Control in Tajikistan for 2022” Presented in Vienna

On the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN Commission on Drug Narcotic Drugs, the Tajik delegation held a side event with the participation of leaders and delegations of UN member states, authoritative international organizations, representatives of civil society and other participants of the session.

The side event was co-chaired by the Regional Representative of the UN Office for Drugs and Crime Ms. Ashita Mitall.

Director of the Drug Control Agency Habibullo Vohidzoda presented to the audience the magazine “Overview of the state of drug control in Tajikistan for 2022,” which is prepared and published annually.

The main attention of the participants was directed to the measures taken by the government of Tajikistan in the direction of drug control, the main trends in the drug situation in the country and the region, as well as the activities of the relevant ministries and departments to combat drug trafficking and organized crime groups, to control drug trafficking and prevent drug addiction, strengthen control at the state border, conduct joint anti-drug operations with law enforcement agencies of other states, implement programs and projects to combat drugs and international cooperation.

The magazine as an information and analytical material contributes to the presentation of the anti-drug policy of the government of Tajikistan, the results of the implementation of state programs, strategies and international projects on the international arena.

The presentation of the magazine will help attract the attention of the world’s states to solving problems related to drugs in Tajikistan.

The event was attended by the Director of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors (CARICC) and the President of CATCA, who discussed issues of combating illicit drug trafficking and expressed their readiness to develop fruitful cooperation.

President Emomali Rahmon Makes Personnel Appointments

The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, made personnel changes in a number of state structures.

By orders of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and by decrees of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan young, qualified and experienced personnel were appointed to responsible positions in the Economic Court of Khatlon and Sughd provinces, in the structure of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Danghara State University, Food Safety Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, State Control Service of Work Safety in Industry and Mining under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Agency of Land and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Agency of Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Control under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Agency of Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Tehran Hosts Briefing on the 2023 UN Water Conference

On March 15, Tehran hosted a briefing dedicated to the implementation of the goals of the UN Water Conference (22-24 March 2023, New York).

The briefing was held in the Iranian Water Research Institute at the initiative of the Embassy of Tajikistan in Iran with the presence of representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, energy, this institution, other institutions related to the water sector and the Iranian media.

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran Nizomiddin Zohidi provided detailed information about the global initiatives of the President of Tajikistan in the field of water.

In this context, the role of the UN Conference in promoting the goals of the International Decade of Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028» was explained, which will be chaired by the President of Tajikistan and the King of the Netherlands on March 22-24, 2023 in New York.

The Director of the UNESCO Regional Center on Urban Water Management Mohammad Hajrasoulih?, the Adviser to the Minister of Energy of Iran M?hammadali Farahn?kian, the President of the Iranian Water Research Institute Mohamadreza K?vianpour and senior managers of the water sector of this country also had speeches at this meeting. During their speeches, the importance of Tajikistan’s global initiatives in the field of water and glaciers’ preservation was emphasized, and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in these fields within the framework of bilateral relations and international organizations was considered important.

Videos about the water resources of Tajikistan and moments from the speeches of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the UN General Assembly on water issues were also shown at the meeting.

UK Interested in Attracting Labor Migrants from Tajikistan

The UK is interested in attracting labor migrants from Tajikistan. This was said on March 15 in Dushanbe during a meeting between the head of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of Tajikistan Imatsho Nodirzoda and the head of OPS LABOUR SOLUTIONS LTD Jonathan Burgess.

The guest was provided with information about labor migration, the situation and prospects, professional training of specialists, knowledge of foreign languages, as well as compliance with the rules of stay in the host country.

Burgess noted that the purpose of his visit was to familiarize and discuss the signing of a cooperation agreement, to consider issues related to attracting citizens of Tajikistan to seasonal work in the UK.

It should be noted that according to the Embassy of Tajikistan in the UK, the employees of the above company intend to cooperate this year in order to attract more citizens of the republic to seasonal work in the UK.

Tajikistan and Belarus Expand Cooperation in Combating Corruption

Tajikistan and Belarus are expanding cooperation in combating corruption. This issue was discussed on March 14 in Dushanbe during a meeting between the Director of the Agency for State Financial Control and the Fight against Corruption of Tajikistan Sulaymon Sultonzoda with the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Dmitry Gora.

The meeting also focused on the state and prospects of cooperation between the two bodies, including the strengthening of the process of signing the Cooperation Agreement for Combating Corruption.

An exchange of views took also place on issues of mutual interest.

The parties agreed to expand interdepartmental cooperation within the framework of this document on joint cooperation.

Tajik Athletes Attend the Women’s World Boxing Championship in New Delhi

Tajik athletes take part in the Women’s World Boxing Championship, which began today in New Delhi.

Tajikistan is represented by Sumaya Kosimova (48 kg), Ruhafzo Haknazarova (50 kg), Mijgona Samadova (60 kg) and Nilufar Boboyorova (63 kg).

The championship will be held from March 16 through March 26. It is attended by representatives of 65 states.

Boxers who receive a gold medal will be awarded a prize of $100,000, for a silver medal – $50,000, as well as for a bronze medal – $25,000.

Internationally wanted Russian citizen detained in Kyrgyzstan

A citizen of the Russian Federation, who is on the international wanted list, was detained in Osh. Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

«On March 9, employees of the Central Criminal Investigation Department for southern region detained the 27-year-old Russian citizen. He is on the international wanted list for fraud on an especially large scale, committed on the territory of Malgobek district of Ingushetia,» the statement says.

The Osh City Court took the detainee into custody for 30 days.

Gold for 500,000 soms: Border guards arrest smugglers

Border guards of Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint, together with the employees of the State Customs Service, prevented illegal transportation of gold items across the state border. Press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Two citizens of Uzbekistan were heading for Uzbekistan from Kyrgyzstan. They tried to carry gold items in their pockets, bypassing the customs legislation, without filling out a declaration.

According to preliminary data, the total cost of smuggled gold items reached 595,000 soms.

The detainees were handed over to the competent authorities for further investigation.
